Man Utd 0-3 Liverpool
You folks may have heard the news by now. Liverpool produced an emphatic display to claim the scalp of arch rivals Manchester United earlier today. It becomes even more impressive when you consider that they fired three goals against the Devils, at Old Trafford.
Much of the pre match talk was dominated by how Sturridge and Suarez were going to destroy United's defence, but ultimately, it was Steven Gerrard that rose to the occassion. The Liverpool skipper was literally everywhere on the pitch, driving his team forward on every occassion, while also dropping back to help form the protective membrane over their defence.
Though he did score two goals, Gerrard's overall display was excellent throughout the game. His ability to read the game is second to none, and the manner in which he creates openings for Suarez and Sturridge was equally mindblowing as well.
The positional awareness was just something to really admire and it caused to much of trouble for Fellaini and Carrick; both of whom failed as the fulcrum of United's midfield.
But obviously, due credit has to be given to Stevie G, for effectively dispatching those two penalties, which left De Gea helpess. It was almost impossible to save. Though Gerrard failed to complete a hat-rick by missing the third spot kick, take nothing away from his inspirational performance earlier today. Not only does it put a massive dent into United's hopes of making it to Europe, but it also significantly helps their bid to return into the Champions League.
