Ong Kim Swee has hinted he could be appointing a new skipper ahead of their clashes against Philippines and Yemen. Who do you think it should be?Interim Malaysian head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee believes that the time may be right to appoint a new skipper for the national team, as he prepares for his inaugural match in charge of the Malayan Tigers.
Safiq Rahim has been the designated skipper for quite some time now, and he was appointed by Datuk K. Rajagopal. However, Ong is now considering several names to become the new captain, though Safiq Rahim is included in that list as well.
Speculations suggests that Kelantan skipper Badhri Radzi is one of those names that are being considered, and it makes complete sense. The 33-year-old playmaker is a leader on the pitch and his composed performance on the pitch has been pivotal for Kelantan in recent times.
Another potential name for the captain post would be Aidil Zafuan, who has stood in as captain for Malaysia in Safiq's absence prior to this. Ong Kim Swee is likely to select his skipper, based on the ability of the player to tie down a regular spot in the national team, and Aidil is certainly an important fulcrum in Malaysia's defence.
Baddrol Bakthiar and Razman Roslan are two names that could have an outside chance as well. Baddrol captains Kedah as of now, and has skippered Harimau Muda before. Meanwhile Razman is the current captain of Pahang, and has been impressive in that role as well.
So who do you think should take over the armband for Malaysia? Is Piya the man to lead the team out? Should Aidil be given the responsibility or maybe Razman or Baddrol? Maybe, Safiq Rahim should retain the armband?
