In Liverpool's hugely impressive win, it was evident that Coutinho's pressing suffocated Arsene Wenger's men
|MAN OF THE MATCH
Liverpool 5-1 Arsenal
Liverpool blitzed Arsenal in the opening 30 minutes of the match and the match was no longer a contest after that. The home side were just faster, more precise and much hungrier than what the league leaders could offer.
It almost seem like every time Liverpool broke for a counter attack, Arsenal just couldn't cope. Their defensive shape was almost non-existent. Players in yellow just weren't compact enough and that was fully exploited by Liverpool.
He may not get on the scoresheet but Coutinho impressed in the slightly deeper than usual midfield role. We all know his prowess in dribbling and that enabled him to get away from tight spaces in midfield.
His quick and diligent pressing ensured that the Arsenal midfield that overran the Liverpool one in the reverse fixture, would not be able to replicate that feat. Jack Wilshere and Mesut Özil in particular were stifled and their contribution limited.
The defeat is a big dent on the title assault for the away side. However those who counts this match as another big match that Arsenal couldn't win must have forgotten who won the corresponding fixture at the Emirates. It is so easy to decide when Liverpool becomes a big team when the narrative calls for it.
