Adnan Januzaj provided constant excitement to the game despite Red Devils' frustrating defeat to the Black Cats in the first leg of their Capital One Cup semi final tie
|MAN OF THE MATCH
Sunderland 2-1 Man United
The game in itself was pretty drabby, with Sunderland potraying a great team effort to a certain extent. But irrespective of that, one player that stood out in terms of providing excitement on the field was Adnan Januzaj. Despite United's shortcomings, Januzaj was a constant threat for United throughout the game and looked the likeliest to create any sort of opportunity for Moyes' men.
He started the game on the left flank, and quickly caused problems by cutting into the middle, dragging the fullback along, while also created more space down the byline for Patrice Evra.
It was no surprise that the Sunderland defence were paying extra attention to him early on in the game, but as the match progressed, Januzaj continued to grow into it and created space for his teammates as well.
His biggest moment came on the 38th minute mark when his rebound shot found the back of the net, though it was correctly ruled out for offside, with television replays suggesting that the initial deflection came from Giggs, who was in an offside position.
Even after the break, the Belgian youngster continued impressing with his trickery and carved out a glorious chance on the 58th minute, though his attempt went straight into the hands of Vito Mannone. 20 minutes later, another effort from a similar angle was unleashed, though this time around, the ball just went wide off the post by inches.
As United's struggles continue, one can only wonder if Januzaj can continue to sustain the burden placed on his shoulders. We have seen teenagers suffer from burnouts before, but if Moyes can use the Belgian youngster in an astute way, then expect him to continue playing a big part in United's season.
