Tiger Street Football hopping down under

After a successful first leg in Cambodia, the Tiger Street Football Tour is taking over Sydney next month

Last year, Tiger Street Football rocked Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal when it arrived for the first time in Australia.

And now, all the fast-paced, smash-mouth and action-packed street style football is back and promises to be better than ever before.

Unique to Tiger Street Football, is the oval-shaped 'Street Football Cage' that measures about 30x12 meters and is covered by a net suspended some two-and-a-half meters above the ground which guarantees continuous play. There are no sidelines and the style of play is quite simple - non-stop, high-octane explosive football action. It will be very unpredictable as players can score by bouncing the ball off the cage.

Players will not have much time to kick about as each match will only run for 12 minutes over two halves. Every game is an all-out 5-on-5 battle because in the cage, there is no room to be idle. Only those with outstanding fitness, reflexes and ball control can survive the unforgiving turf.

Led by event ambassador, Fabio Cannavaro, this year’s tournament will take place at the Rocks in Sydney on May 4th and 5th.

Returning to defend their title will be the Street Vipers and joining them in the cage are teams from Melbourne and Byron Bay/Bangalow. Teams from Germany, Malaysia, Spain and Vietnam will make cameo appearances to add an international twist to the games.

With twice the number of teams qualifying for the competition, football fans can expect nothing less than a weekend of entertaining football.

The teams that win their respective national tournaments are awarded a cash prize of US$3,000 for first place, US$1,500 for second place and US$500 for third. The team that becomes Grand Champions will go home with US$30,000.

The day one Australian Champions will head to China in October to play in the grand final.

In true Tiger Beer style, the two-day event will be swashed with a radical display of everything street; DJ’s, artists, Tiger Cage Girls, dancers and of course, the beer will be flowing.
