The Asean Football Federation (AFF) recently announced its nominees and winners for its inaugural AFF Awards Night scheduled for April 3 in Pahang, Malaysia.
Eighteen individuals and teams that have made exemplary contributions to the sports will be vying for the awards.
Selection of the best players is done by AFF’s Technical Study Group (TSG) and is related to the federation’s evaluation of performances during the tournament which was held in Malaysia and Thailand last December.
The tournament's ‘Best IX’ consists of players from Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore.
Also listed, are the players running for the AFF Player of the Year Award; namely, Teerasil Dangda (THA), Shahril Ishak (SIN) and Kyi Lin (MYA).
Although Emelio Asada Caligdong of the Philippines is a nominee for player of the year, he was not picked for the ‘Best XI’.
Shahril, Singapore’s forward, was the Most Valuable Player of the AFF Suzuki Cup last year while Teerasil, Thailand’s striker, netted five times for his side in the tournament and is also in the running for the award of the competition’s best goal.
Myanmar’s Kyi Lin, however, is somewhat a surprise nominee for the category.
