Youngster Rahman Che Mat gets a second chance at football stardom after chosen to replace Mohd Raphi who earns national call-up
After Nike ‘The Chance’ finalist Mohd Raphi Azizan received a call-up from Harimau Muda coach Ong Kim Swee to join the national squad for a trial stint in Slovakia and China, the panel of expert judges turned to the next best player to replace him and represent Malaysia at the regional finals in Jakarta, Rahman Che Mat.
The 24 year-old will now join finalists N. Thanabalan, Yuhenri Bin Rusdi, Muhamad Rafef bin Raya and Carlos Benjamin Goonting as the top five finalists of Nike ‘The Chance’ Malaysia.
More than 6,000 youths between the ages of 16 and 24 took part in this year’s Nike ‘The Chance’. Last Tuesday, five out of 30 finalists were selected to represent the country at ‘The Chance’ regional finals in Jakarta in June where they will compete alongside 15 players from three countries across the region (Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia).
Four players from the regional finals will then be selected to compete at the global finals in Barcelona under the watchful eye of world-class coaches including Pep Guordiola. They will be given a chance to experience world class training facilities, elite coaching, and obtain inputs from nutritionists, psychologists and fitness conditioners.
