S.League Big Bet Preview: Harimau to edge Hougang clash, DPMM to beat Rams

Harimau Muda will look to gain 3 points against Hougang United while DPMM will be expected to beat Woodlands in Brunei

Courts Young Lions
1-2 Gombak United

The Young Lions finally got their first win of the season in resounding style, trashing Tanjong Pagar United 5-0 last week. Two-goal hero Jonathan Toto will be keen to continue his form when they play Gombak United at the Jalan Besar Stadium. Coach Robin Chitrakar will be hoping that the win against the Jaguars will have helped his team turn around the corner after a dismal start to the season, picking up a point from 7 games.

Gombak come into this game on the back of a 2-0 victory over Geylang United and a sting of strong performances. The Bulls have formidable strength in attack with Hafiz Rahim and Mustaqim Manzur on the wings, supporting Julien Durand and Jung Hee Bong up front. Gombak will miss winger K. Vikraman, who is suffering from an ankle injury, and defender Nurullah Hussein due to suspension.

Expect a lively affair with both teams vying for 3 points!

Geylang United
1-2
Albirex Niigata

Geylang's inexperience was evident against Gombak United and coach Kanan Vedhamuthu will be hoping that his side will have recovered in time to face a resurgent Albirex side. Geylang have struggled with from despite replacing former coach Mike Wong and will be looking for an improved performance at the Bedok Stadium.

After a poor start to the season Albirex have picked up 2 wins on the trot and will be looking to make it 3 against the Eagles. Albirex completed a double against the Eagles last season and will take confidence from their showing in their last 2 games.  Expect a tight affair in this one!

Harimau Muda
2-1
Hougang United

Both teams play an attractive brand of quick passing football and fans can expect good attacking football in this mouth-watering clash! Harimau Muda and Hougang United both lost thier last round of matches against Balestier Khalsa and SAF respectively and will be looking to bounce back immediately.

Harimau Muda will be missing several players who have been called up to the national team and coach Ong Kim Swee will be banking on his replacements to deliever.

Hougang coach Nenad Bacina was confident that his side's attractive football will be rewarded despite losing to SAF and expect a direct approach from his side. Canadian forward Jordan Webb and Malian forward Mamadou Diallo will lead the attack for Hougang looking to end a run of 2 defeats.

Brunei DPMM
2-0 Woodlands

Brunei DPMM were suprised by Home United 1-0 and lost their unbeaten run in their last outing.

They return to familiar surroundings of Brunei and will look to bounce back against the Rams. Coach Vejran Simunic is confident that the defeat to the Protectors was a one-off and vouched to continue their push for honours. DPMM slipped to second after the defeat but have a game in hand over leaders Balestier. DPMM's experience, physical threat and technical ability should help them ease to victory.

This game could not come at a worse time for Woodlands who are on a poor run of form - picking up 2 points from their last 6 games. They can at least take courage from the form of
custodian Ahmadulhaq Che Omar who was in terrific form against Harimau Muda. Woodlands will hope that he is at his best to get them the points in this tough away assignment.

Tanjong Pagar
0-2
  Home United

Tanjong Pagar are rooted to the foot of the table after a poor run and coach Terry Pathmanathan will be hoping to revive his side's fortunes when they take on the in-form Protectors.

Home United sealed qualification to the round of 16 in the AFC Cup after a late comeback victory against Citizen and will look to continue their fine form. Their forward trio of Shi Jiayi, Federic Mendy and Qui Li have been in fine form and have devised a system of play that suits the team. Coach Lim will be hoping that his team carries on their fine form and will make sure they keep up their performance level.

Tanjong Pagar were poor against the Young Lions, slumping to a 5-0 defeat and will need to improve both individually and collectively if they are to get points out of this game.

Tampines Rovers
2-1 Singapore Armed Forces

The Stags crashed out of the AFC cup after a drab draw against Kitchee and have been found wanting for their over-reliance on striker Aleksandar Duric. Duric leads the charts with 8 goals and has spearheaded the Stag's attack. Coach Steven Tan will want his boys to bounce back in style against SAF at the Clementi Stadium.

The Warriors were fortunate to defeat Hougang United 1-0 after a late Mislav Karoglan header and will be looking to build a good run of form. Coach Richard Bok will take confidence from the strong defensive showing that helped them gain their first clean sheet of the season.

Expect a tight affair with both teams keen to avoid defeat!
