thumbnail Hello,

With the Blues having agreed a deal to sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid for £35 million this summer, the Portuguese says that he is out for "a couple" of key additions

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho says that his side will make "critical signings" this summer as they look set to miss out on silverware entirely this season.

As revealed by Goal, the Blues used their semi-final clash with Atletico Madrid to broker a deal for Diego Costa and the Spain international is unlikely to be the only key addition that the west Londoners make.

The Portuguese confirmed that a centre forward was one of his side's main priorities, though he refused to comment on the capture of Costa specifically, with "a couple" of important purchases planned.

"The only thing I can say is that the market is closed. Chelsea will be calm and quiet during that period. We are not going to be the noisy team buying and selling and selling and buying," said Mourinho to the press.

"We are going to do, I would say, a couple of critical signings. Is a striker a target for us? Yes. We never deny that. Is Diego a good player? He is but he's an Atletico Madrid player so I can't say much."

Mourinho also hit back at star winger Eden Hazard, noting that the Belgian needs to improve his defensive contribution after being culpable in an Atleti goal on Wednesday.
