The Hammers boss highlighted the positive side of a clean sheet at Upton Park, while Paul Lambert praised his side for earning a point with an injury-ravaged line-up

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce believes his side are unlucky to have drawn with Aston Villa and insists they will find their goalscoring touch soon.

The Hammers lined up against Villa at Upton Park once again without an orthodox forward, with Kevin Nolan leading the line and Carlton Cole coming off the bench late on but they failed to find a way past Brad Guzan.

However, Allardyce highlighted the importance of keeping a clean sheet at home and says it is only a matter of time before his side find some luck in front of goal.

"After three home defeats on the trot it was very important we didn't lose," he told reporters after the game.

"We tried to win it but we didn't find the quality to put the ball into the net. We delivered 38 balls into the box but it's a spell we are having where we can't find the net.

"In the last two home games we have conceded three in both so it was vital to get back to keeping clean sheets.

"There's only one thing missing and that's scoring a goal or two - but we are only a small margin away from being a three-point team instead of a one-point team."

Paul Lambert, meanwhile, was pleased with his side's performance considering the absence of key players such as Gabriel Agbonlahor, who was out with injury.

"Considering the injuries we have, I thought we stood up and competed brilliantly," said Lambert.

"It was always going to be difficult but all credit to the team. I thought in terms of chances, we had the better ones."
