West Brom youngster Berahino not available for loan, says Clarke

The Baggies boss says the England Under-21 international, who followed up a hat-trick in the Capital One Cup with two goals for the Young Lions, will be a part of his squad
West Brom manager Steve Clarke says Saido Berahino will not be available for loan during the coming months, with the Scot keen to keep the youngster at the Hawthorns.

The 20-year old had been linked with a move to the Championship after impressing for the Baggies in the Capital One Cup and for the England Under-21s, but Clarke intends to retain the Burundi-born striker's services.

"He's part of my squad," Clarke told reporters ahead of their trip to Fulham on Saturday. "We have to be careful with Saido. He's been out for seven months but came back and had a good pre-season.

"He had a great night with the Capital One Cup and two really good nights with the Under-21s, so he's in a great place."

West Brom, who are winless so far this season, have bolstered their options in attack with the deadline-day signings of Stephane Sessegnon and Victor Anichebe, but Clarke still sees Berahino as an option up front.

"My job is to manage him and make sure that in six months' time he's still in that great place and can make contributions to whatever club he is at," added the Scottish boss.

"I want to keep him involved and make sure physically he's okay."
