Premier League is our priority, says Swansea boss Laudrup

The Swans take on Valencia, Birmingham and St Gallen in both the Europa League and Capital One Cup over the next three weeks, but the Dane is more concerned with league form
Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup insists the Premier League is his top priority this season as the Swans prepare to tackle both the Europa League and Capital One Cup.

The Liberty Stadium outfit can look forward to a trip to the Mestalla Stadium next Thursday to face Valencia, while Birmingham await in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

But, with Swansea currently sitting in 16th place in the league table after losing their opening two games of the season, Laudrup is adamant that the club must make the Premier League their main focus.

12/1 Swansea are 12/1 with bet365 to be relegated
"I think the important thing right now, in the next seven games, is the Premier League," he told the club’s official website.

"The Premier League is our priority. I use the words ‘daily bread’ because it’s here that we have to survive and then do well.

"The domestic cups are something extra, and the Europa League, this year for us, is a great bonus. But at this moment, the Premier League is absolutely our priority."

Swansea picked up their first points of the season with an away win at West Brom, enough to climb out of the relegation zone, and Laudrup believes the club must ensure they beat teams of a similar status to themselves.

"For the first six to ten games of the season, I don’t look at the table because a lot can depend on the fixtures. We’ve had a tough start, with some difficult games," the 49-year-old added.

"We just need to keep in there at this part of the season. We will then come to play a lot of the teams consecutively in what I call ‘our league’. That is why it was important to get the three points at West Brom."
