Villas-Boas: Tottenham can succeed with or without Bale

Spurs beat Swansea thanks to another Roberto Soldado penalty, and the Portuguese boss maintains his side can continue winning with or without their Welsh superstar
Andre Villas-Boas believes Tottenham will continue to progress and win games regardless of whether Gareth Bale joins Real Madrid or stays at White Hart Lane.

Spurs continued their strong start to the season by defeating Swansea following another Roberto Soldado penalty, with Bale once again absent as he prepares to complete a world record £86 million move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

But Villas-Boas insists his side can carry on with or without Bale.

"We've gone on with our business. Gareth, unfortunately for us, hasn't been part of our squad, but we have a big squad to choose from.

"This team can only develop and we look forward towards the future.

"With Gareth or without, we can be stronger."

Tottenham continued their 100 percent start to the season with a narrow victory over the Swans, and Villas-Boas was quick to praise Michael Laudrup's side.

"It was difficult," he admitted. "I think defensively we did very well.

"You often see Swansea taking control of possession but today they didn't, so I think we were defensively sound.

"It was a tight encounter, but I think in the end it was a deserved result."

Spurs are yet to score from open play in the Premier League this season, but Villas-Boas insists he is not concerned about his team's lack of goals.

"I don't think there's any frustration," he continued. "Last season we had no penalties, but this season we're going in to the box more and creating better chances."
