Jol impressed by Fulham new-boys despite loss to Arsenal

Darren Bent scored a consolation goal after sealing a season-long loan from Aston Villa, while Scott Parker offered industry in midfield, leaving the Cottagers with positives
Fulham manager Martin Jol praised new signings Darren Bent and Scott Parker despite a 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Saturday.

The former Tottenham midfielder was dogged in the centre of the pitch, just four days after joining the club, while Aston Villa loanee Bent scored a consolatory goal for the home side in the 77th minute, though they had already conceded three at that point to Olivier Giroud and, twice, Lukas Podolski.

Though the result was not ideal for Jol's men, the Dutchman was impressed with the debut pair, while hinting that he will look to make further signings before the window closes.

"[Bent's goal] is what we needed but, of course, we want to win games and today he scored a goal and we lost 3-1 and that is not what you want," the Cottagers boss told the press.

"I thought Scott was one of the better players on the park, on the ball, so that is what we needed, we needed someone who can control the game and I think he did that.

"I think we played well, I can't say that we played particularly bad - the only thing is in the final third we need a bit more quality, cutting edge, we need a fine tuning in the box."

Jol's men will next pit themselves against Burton Albion in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday, before continuing their league campaign against Newcastle.
