thumbnail Hello,

The Premier League-bound Brazil international is adamant he will not shy away from being likened to Chelsea's all-time top scorer, who he considers a 'huge phenomenon'

Prospective Tottenham signing Paulinho insists he is motivated by comparisons to Chelsea's "incredible" midfielder Frank Lampard.

The Corinthians star, who has confirmed he is set to join Spurs, was likened to Chelsea's all-time record goalscorer by Boca Juniors playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme.

And Paulinho admits he is delighted to be compared to the England international and feels he can learn a lot from his style of play in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old told ESPN programme Bola da Vez: "This comparison is a responsibility that I will take, I will not run away from it.

"Lampard is a great player, not only for Chelsea, but in world football. I intend to follow in his footsteps as he is a very professional guy, David Luiz (Lampard's Chelsea team-mate) always speaks of him on international duty.

"I've always looked at what Lampard does, and to me he is a huge phenomenon - the way he hits the ball, what positions he takes up - he really is incredible."

Paulinho also revealed he won the respect of Riquelme in the Copa Libertadores in May when his Boca side faced Corinthians.

"After I played against Riquelme he turned to me and said, 'You are a phenomenon' and said he wanted my shirt to give to his son," he added.
