thumbnail Hello,

The German only joined the club in January from Schalke and feels his performances will benefit from a full preparation period with his new team-mates after missing out last term

Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby is eager to start his first pre-season with the north London club after joining in January last season.

Holtby arrived from Schalke and went on to make 17 appearances before the end of the season, but having captained Germany in the Under-21 European Championships he is keen to link up with his domestic team-mate ahead of a first full campaign at White Hart Lane.

"We meet for pre-season and then go to Hong Kong and that will be important," Holtby told the club's official website.

"It's a chance to get to know everyone a bit more and [a pre-season trip] that was the only thing I missed when I joined. I just jumped straight in!"

Holtby is eagerly anticipating the new season but concedes he will have to make a starting XI spot his own, such is the competition for places at Tottenham.

He added: "I really enjoyed playing with the lads.

"There is so much quality here and it’s a fight for places because the whole squad is so competitive. It’s so enjoyable playing football with these guys."
