The scuffle is said to have happened at a takeaway, with witnesses present telling The Sun that the 26-year-old looked liked he’d "had a few" and "was definitely drunk."

Simpson was photographed, apparently unconscious, on the floor outside.

Police arrived at the scene after hearing reports of an assault but say a man with minor injuries did not wish to make a complaint. An ambulance spokesman also confirmed that a man was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Simpson’s spokesman said: "Danny’s fine and will be back training tomorrow."
