Ramis injury overshadows fine Wigan display, says Martinez

The Latics' boss was happy with the result against Fulham, but he fears that his Spanish defender may be out for the rest of the season if test results show knee ligament damage
Roberto Martinez is fearing the worst for Spanish defender Ivan Ramis, who could miss the rest of the season if scan results show knee ligament damage after his collision with Dimitar Berbatov against Fulham on Saturday.

Ramis had to be taken off on a stretcher towards the end of the 1-1 draw with Fulham, and Roberto Martinez was clearly very concerned for the defender, who has been outstading for the Latics so far this season.

"The positives have been shaded by the bad news of Ivan Ramis’ injury which is a real blow after his magnificent display," he told reporters.

"Until we get the results of the scan we can’t be too sure but it looks long term and an injury to the ligaments in his right knee.

"It’s difficult news to take because he doesn’t deserve it after the performance he gave and the season he’s had."

Wigan battled back from 1-0 down at Craven Cottage, with a wonder goal from Franco Di Santo earning them a vital point.

That lifted them to 17th place in the Premier League table, out of the drop zone on goal difference ahead of Aston Villa.
