The Borussia Dortmund manager admits he is still in contact with the Turkish international amid reports he will not see out his so far unspectacular loan spell at Anfield
The 24-year-old left the German champions in 2011 when he signed for Spanish giants Real Madrid, but injury and squad competition prevented him from breaking into the first team and he joined Liverpool on loan in the summer.
However, with claims manager Brendan Rodgers is playing him out of position and failing to cement his place in the Reds' midfield, there are rumours he could cut his Anfield career short.
If he does decide to, former manager Klopp hints he will be waiting, and admits he still contacts his former player and agrees he is being played out of position.
"I can't say anything about it right now. It's no secret I always had contact with him,” Klopp told Bild.
“We have to see how it will go on for him. Back then it was a good constellation. Then he went to Madrid, but got injured, that was the problem.
“I don't know what role he takes in Brendan Rodgers plans, but I don’t think playing number ten is the right thing for him."
