The Bulgarian has failed to score since November, and Jol is keen to end the club's run of just one win on 10 Premier League games against Southampton on Boxing Day
Fulham boss Martin Jol feels it is important to keep star striker Dimitar Berbatov happy as the club look to improve their Premier League form.
The Cottagers are enduring a miserable spell in the league, having accrued just four points from the last 21 available, and the manager believes the Bulgarian rediscovering his goalscoring touch is key to the London side moving back up the table.
Fulham face Southampton on Boxing Day knowing a win for the promoted side would bring them within two points of Jol’s side, and the Dutchman is counting on the former Manchester United and Tottenham man to rescue the club’s season.
"If things are going well then everyone will be happy with him but if things are not going well then he can be unhappy," Jol told reporters.
"He is used to winning games at the clubs where he was so we have to talk to him. He has to put in the same attitude and work-rate that he always did before.
"When he does that there is no problem but he is certainly a player who we have to keep on his toes.
"We hope he does well for us because we were very happy with him for the first few months.
"If we don’t pick up the results we’ll be in the same situation as five or six other clubs."
