Redknapp confirms interest in signing Ben Haim as defender joins QPR on trial

Having left Portsmouth in August, the Israeli defender is now a free agent and the Hoops boss has confirmed his interest in bringing the 30-year-old to Loftus Road
QPR boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed that former Chelsea and Portsmouth defender Tal Ben Haim is currently on trial at Loftus Road.

The Israel international left Portsmouth in August, but has joined in with QPR’s training sessions under Redknapp in recent weeks.

Ben Haim played under Redknapp at Fratton Park and the 64-year-old has revealed he is keen on renewing his working relationship with the 30-year-old defender.

"I am having a look at him, he's a good defender, he's a good lad and has a great attitude,” Redknapp confirmed to reporters on Friday.

“He looks very fit and I have let him come in and train, we will just see where we go in the next couple of weeks."

Ben Haim has spent much of his career in England, enjoying spells at Chelsea, Bolton, Manchester City, Sunderland and West Ham.

However, the versatile defender – who can play both as a full-back and centre-half – has not played since Israel's 4-0 World Cup qualifying defeat against Russia in September.

He is currently a free agent after departing Fratton Park, where he spent two separate spells as a player.
