Adkins turning to home form to ensure Southampton survival

The Saints boss has been pleased with his side's displays at St Mary's this season but reminded his players of the importance of beating fellow strugglers Reading on Saturday
Southampton boss Nigel Adkins insists his side must strive to secure a victory in every home game this season in order to secure Premier League survival.

Adkins' men have won twice at St Mary's this season, while their poor away form has seen them secure just three points from a possible 21.

Southampton sit in the relegation zone and host 19th-placed Reading on Saturday and Adkins, who has been buoyed by his side's display at home this term, has urged his players to turn their performances into victories.

"We’re back at St Mary’s and home games are always important and will always be highlighted," Adkins told the Southern Daily Echo.

"We’ve been outstanding at St Mary’s and played some really good football, dominating games.

"That’s where we’ve got to make sure we strive to pick up the three points in every game.

"The next game is a derby game against Reading. It will be a full house, a great atmosphere and a game that the players will be looking forward to.”
