Pearce eager to sign new Reading deal

The 24-year-old central defender's contract at the Madejski Stadium expires next summer, and he is keen to pen new terms to remain part of Brian McDermott's squad
Reading defender Alex Pearce is eager to sign a contract extension with the club, according to his manager Brian McDermott.

The 24-year-old's current deal runs out at the end of the season, meaning the Royals may need to cash in on the player in January if a new agreement cannot be reached.

But, despite Pearce making just four league appearances so far this season, McDermott hopes to see the situation resolved quickly.

"We had a good talk on Saturday. He wants to sign and I want him to sign," McDermott told the Reading Post.

"His agent needs to contact the club and they need to get together again. I don't want this to drag on for much longer.

"It's out of my hands. It has to do with the club and the agent."
