thumbnail Hello,

The 25-year-old defender has been out for two weeks after suffering a dead leg but is back in training and hopes to regain his first-team place for the trip to Tyneside

Swansea City defender Chico Flores is optimistic about his chances of making a return from injury ahead of Saturday's trip to Newcastle.

The 25-year-old has been unavailable since being substituted during the Capital One Cup victory over Liverpool at Anfield with a dead leg.

However, the Spaniard is nearing a full recovery and revealed that he will return to training before the clash with Alan Pardew's side, telling reporters: "I'm still feeling a bit of pain but it has improved a lot.

"I am hoping to return to full training on Thursday to see how it reacts.

"Like all players, I want to play week-in, week-out, and I am not the type of person who likes to leave the field with an injury. But I just couldn't carry on at Liverpool; it was too bad.

"I thought I would recover after three or four days, but it just got worse and has dragged on."

With Garry Monk impressing for the Swans as his replacement, the former Genoa man is not certain to return to the starting line-up straight away.

And the centre-back expressed his frustration at the disruption to his season but remains confident that he will be back playing before long.

"It was particularly disappointing because I thought I was at a good level after coming back from suspension," he added. "I was feeling comfortable on the pitch and with the team.

"The injury is a blow, but I hope to be fit and performing well again soon, hopefully at Newcastle on Saturday."
