The 23-year-old will link up with former manager Steve Bruce and Black Cats team-mate Ahmed Elmohamady at the KC Stadium, where he will remain until January
The Republic of Ireland international has been limited to just five appearances for Martin O'Neill's side this season, and follows team-mate Ahmed Elmohamady in joining the Tigers on a temporary deal.
A statement on the club's official website confirmed that Meyler will join former Black Cats boss Steve Bruce at the KC Stadium.
It read: "Sunderland’s David Meyler has joined Npower Championship side Hull City on loan until January 1.
"The 23-year-old will link up with former manager Steve Bruce as well as winger Ahmed Elmohamady, who is also on loan with the Tigers."
Meyler, who made his international bow in a September friendly against Oman, has made 31 appearances for Sunderland since joining from Cork City in 2008.
He could make his debut for the Tigers when they take on Cardiff City on Saturday.
