Rangel: Swansea new-boy Hernandez will be a nightmare for defenders

The full-back cited Michu's blistering start for Michael Laudrup's as something the Spaniard can aim for, insisting the "special" player's quality is "unbelievable"

Swansea City defender Angel Rangel believes the club's record signing Pablo Hernandez will cause opposing defences problems this season.

The winger joined the Welsh outfit from Valencia for £5.5 million during the summer, and came off the bench for his Swans’ debut against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Though the fixture saw Michael Laudrup's men lose for the first time this campaign, the Spaniard displayed some flashes of quality that made him a hit in La Liga and have helped him win four international caps - and his fellow countryman suggested that the 27-year-old can emulate Michu's impact at the Liberty Stadium.

12/1 Swansea are 12/1 to finish in the Premier League top six this season

“Pablo has really made an effect in training already and when he came on against Villa he made an impact and tried everything to help the team,” the 29-year-old told the club's official website.

“His quality is unbelievable and we have got a special player in Pablo. He will help us a lot this season.

“He is a tricky player who has the quality to score goals and get a lot of assists, and I think he will be an instant hit for us.

“Look at Michu, he made a huge impact on his debut and in the next few games after that, so I won’t be surprised if Pablo is the same.
“He will be a real nightmare for full-backs because he can use both feet, he can really pick out a pass for the striker and his delivery is great.

“With his vision, he has everything a winger needs and that’s why he has played for Valencia in La Liga and for Spain.”
