The 28-year-old joins the Premier League new boys after his release from German club Stuttgart, having previously enjoyed a successful loan period at Fulham last term

Reading have signed Russia international Pavel Pogrebnyak after the striker was granted a work permit.

The 28-year-old has joined the club on a free transfer following his release from Bundesliga side Stuttgart, having agreed a four-year contract.

Director of football Nick Hammond told the club's official website: "We were always hopeful that a permit would be secured but it's still great to get the deal done.

"It'll be nice get him in and working with the lads - he's a great individual, and will fit really well into group."

The Russian will join up with the rest of the squad at a later date as he takes a break following Euro 2012 and will link up with fellow new signings Gareth McCleary and Danny Guthrie.

Manager Brian McDermott added: "We're delighted. It's been a long process to get Pavel to the club and now he's officially a Reading player and everyone is looking forward to working with him.

"Having met Pavel, he is a top guy, his work ethic is excellent and I'm sure he will be very important to our group in the coming years."

Pogrebnyak previously impressed while on loan at Fulham for the second half of last season, scoring six goals in 12 Premier League appearances.
