Reports circulated suggesting the 34-year-old Monaco defender had suffered a cancer relapse and would be forced to quit the game, but he has rubbished the claims
Reports began to circulate on social media on Thursday suggesting the former Barcelona man had suffered a relapse of the liver cancer which has forced him to miss much of the last three years of his career.
Some even claimed that the 34-year-old would be forced to retire as a result of the news, but Abidal himself took to Twitter on Friday morning to make it clear there was no basis to the rumours.
"Good morning, rumors in Twitter are not true," he wrote. "Training in La Turbie thinking about next match."
Abidal, who battled for a year to return to playing following a liver transplant in March 2012, joined Monaco last summer after his contract with Barcelona expired.
The France international, who has made 25 appearances for Claudio Ranieri's side this season, was forced to apologise to the club after he left the stadium without permission after being left out of the side to face Lille.
