The young midfielder believes that Perak's team spirit and determination formed the backbone of their sensational 2-1 victory over Kelantan on Saturday
Perak's Sukri Hamid praised his teammates and claimed that the passionate team spirit was the major reason behind their ability to defeat Kelantan by the score line of 2-1 yesterday.
"On paper, Kelantan are definitely a better team than us, everyone knows that. But we proved that even with a young team, we can still shine and beat big teams," he told Goal Malaysia exclusively.
"All you need is just determination on the pitch. Our team spirit was incredible today (Saturday)."
Sukri initially opened the scoring in the first half to give Perak the lead, but Mohammed Shawky equalized for the Red Warriors 10 minutes after the second half kicked off. But a tactical masterclass from Abu Bakar Fadzim, where he brought on Khairul Asyraf for Zelimis Terkes, paid dividends immediately.
The young Perak forward perfectly executed a header from the far post to guide the ball past Khairul Fahmi, and sent the Perak fans into raptures, with 15 minutes on the clock. And Sukri wasn't surprised to see him to that either.
"Khairul is an amazing player, you saw for yourself tonight. He may be young, but he is extremely talented as a striker. Even in the President Cup last year, Khairul was always popping up with important goals that helped us all the time. Today, he did it for us again."
With the win over Kelantan, Perak have now amassed 6 points from their first four games and currently sit 8th on the Super League table. Contrary to what many expected of them prior to the season, Abu Bakar Fadzim has certainly got his talented squad up and running, and Sukri believes that he fully deserves the credit for it.
"Coach Burn (Abu Bakar) has been immense for us as well, always there to guide us and show us how to win games. He is very smart with tactics and you could clearly see that today. He deserves huge credit," Sukri concluded.
