The keeper was a bit hasty when coming off of his line but made a string of impressive saves throughout the game. He kept his team in the match for the full 90 minutes and denied Reus a goal on no less than three occasions.
An impressive aerial performance from the Bosnian and he swept things up well at the back. He got across to cover his team-mates frequently but struggled when faced up one-on-one. He hit the post in stoppage time with a header.
Tried to get physical with Lewandowski from the early stages and stuck tight to him. However, when he afforded him too much space he took full advantage and it resulted in Braunschweig going a goal down.
The full-back gave a good account of himself up against some rather pacey forwards. He communicated well with Dogan to restrict the space for BVB to play the ball through, but he did not attack at all.
Headed one of his side's best opportunities over the top of but did not fail at the second attempt as he drew his side level after the break. He defended well for much of the game and got forward consistently.
The former Manchester City youngster took a while to find his feet but eventually proved a real source of danger. His pace in the wide areas enabled him to get at Dortmund and he created opportunities in dangerous areas.
Put in an industrious performance in midfield. He worked hard for his team to ensure that BVB had a limited amount of time on the ball, but he lacked the dynamism to get up and support.
Played some clever, neat passes in what was a hotly contested midfield battle. He regularly looked to feed the strikers when he got in possession, but he perhaps should have got forward to support them himself more often.
Displayed great technique with a number of intelligent touches out on the left flank. He linked up with Nielsen well and played a number of quality balls into the box, making him a real danger to the opposition.
Proved to be a real handful from the off. His movement was intuitive and he got into some dangerous areas, linking with those around him brilliantly. However, his finishing left a lot to be desired.
Failed to match his strike partner in terms of quality and endeavour. He saw plenty of the ball but he took far too long to make up his mind about what to do with it. His touch was poor and he did not get into threatening areas.
The keeper had very little to do over the course of the evening. Whenever he was called into action he showed a solid pair of hands, but he was unable to stop Kessel's near-post effort from squirming past him for the equaliser.
Regularly pushed on down the left to offer another outlet for his team, but he did not manage to get the ball into the box frequently enough. He was fortunate not to concede a late penalty for handball.
Once more playing at right-back he, at times, showed a lack of positional awareness. He then lost Kessel for the equaliser but he did consistently attempt to push on and get at the Braunschweig defence.
The Greek defender had a solid evening in the heart of the defence. He was comfortable with the ball at his feet and it was his attacking injection which spurred the opening goal.
Returned to the heart of the BVB defence and had a shaky start which saw him gift the hosts a great opportunity to score which they passed up. He did not seem comfortable in possession of the ball.
Put in a combative performance in midfield, making a number of strong challenges. He read the play well and often positioned himself astutely to intercept the ball and break apart the oppositions flow.
Looked to dictate the game in the opening stages, dropping deep and picking the ball up from the defence before looking to spray it forward. He did this well initially but his influence waned as the game continued.
The Armenian played some scything through-balls which created a few quality opportunities for his team-mates. His own finishing was sub-par, though, although he did hit the post late on.
Struggled to get involved in the action in the opening stages but by full-time he had truly made his mark. A simple finish opened the scoring in the first time before a well-placed shot after the interval secured him his second of the night.
The striker was watched closely throughout the game but was unperturbed. He continually sought space and the ball and produced a moment of sheer class to assist Dortmund's opening goal. However, he did not threaten enough directly.
Consistently offered impressive delivery into the area from set plays and was heavily involved throughout. He played a role in the opener before assisting his side's second, but his finishing left a lot to be desired as he failed to beat Davari.
