Defending champions Malaysia's opening match of the 2013 SEA Games' football tournament against Brunei yesterday left a lot to be desired. Despite the 2-0 win, they were made to labour for it by the same team that had earlier been trounced 7-0 by Vietnam, almost caught napping in defence a number of times, and wasted numerous chances to extend their lead.

However, their midfield's performance were commendable, keeping a lion's share of the possession, and launching one lethal through pass after another to catch their emboldened opponents. And this is thanks to the commanding presence of Nazmi Faiz, who is already playing in his second SEA Games, despite the fact that he is only 19-year old.
The PKNS FC lad showed that he was always aware of his teammates' position during the game, and directed much of the ball to Ashri Chuchu on the left wing, and makeshift right winger Thamil Arasu, to threaten the Brunei box.
If the fans believe that the stuttering Young Tigers need time to gain confidence and ease into their respective roles, they can at least be relieved that the heart of the midfield has already shown that he is one step ahead of his teammates.
