Real Madrid target Bale worth less than £50m, say Goal readers

The Tottenham winger, who could be set for a £100 million move to the Liga powerhouse, is not worth half that amount, according to 26.7 per cent of voters in our poll

The future of Tottenham winger Gareth Bale is very much up in the air at the moment, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy in initial discussions with Real Madrid over a £100 million deal.

But is the Welshman really worth that record-breaking sum of money?

A £100m fee would eclipse the £80m that Madrid splashed out on then-Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2009, although the Liga runners-up appear ready to flex their financial muscle once again.

Bale, who scooped both the PFA Player and Young Player of the Year awards for his outstanding 2012-13 campaign with Spurs, scored 21 goals in the Premier League last term as the north Londoners narrowly missed out on a place in the Champions League.

Goal readers have had their say on Bale's true value, with 26.7 per cent arguing that the flying winger is worth less than £50 million.

A figure of £50m, and not a penny more or less, is what 19.7% of voters feel would be the right price, a sum matching the fee that Chelsea paid for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres in 2011.

Should Madrid secure a staggering £100m-plus deal with Levy and Spurs to smash the current transfer record, just 9.8% of Goal readers who voted in our poll feel that would be a fair amount for the former Southampton youngster.
