Roy Hodgson has rested Steven Gerrard for England's World Cup qualifying clash with San Marino, while Theo Walcott misses out through injury as Frank Lampard starts as captain.

Regular skipper Gerrard has been placed on the substitutes bench while Ashley Young, Leighton Baines and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - scored his one and only international goal in the reverse fixture in October - have all been handed starts.

Lampard makes his 95th England appearance, while Ashley Cole also misses out on a starting berth being just one booking away from suspension.
