John Brown's men are desperate for points in their fight for survival but Scottish football expert Willie Duncan is backing the visitors to claim all three points on WednesdayDundee battled their way to a courageous point against St Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League last weekend and new manager John Brown will be looking for more of that fighting spirit from his side when they welcome St Mirren to Dens Park on Wednesday evening.
The hosts are rated as a 5/2 (3.50) shot with William Hill to enjoy what would be their first league victory since November when they play host to Danny Lennon’s side.
The Buddies claimed a victory over fellow strugglers Heart of Midlothian last Wednesday but suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Celtic in the Scottish Cup at the weekend and William Hill go 6/5 (2.20) that the Paisley side bounce back to claim all three points here while the same firm offer 21/10 (3.10) that the match ends in stalemate.
It is worth noting that Danny Lennon’s side have won just two of their 13 away matches in the league thus far this term.
However, both of those victories came in Dundee with the Buddies enjoying a 2-0 victory at Dens Park back in August while St Mirren’s most recent away league win came courtesy of a thrilling 4-3 triumph over Dundee United at Tannadice in December.
Goals have been in short supply for the Dens Park side this term, the Dee having managed just 16 league goals in 28 games while Ryan Conroy is Dundee’s top scorer this term with just four goals in all competitions.
The former Queen of the South midfielder is available at 11/1 (12.0) with William Hill to open the scoring for John Brown’s side on Wednesday while Jim McAlister, who was on target in Dundee’s 2-1 defeat to city rivals Dundee United in the Scottish Cup at the weekend, is available at 25/1 (26.0) to score first.
Veteran striker Steven Thompson is likely to lead St Mirren’s attack on Wednesday and the former Rangers striker, who has scored 14 goals for the Buddies this term, is chalked up at an appealing 5/1 (6.0) with William Hill to score first while Esmael Goncalves, who has managed five goals in eight games since joining Danny Lennon’s side on loan is rated as a 9/2 (5.50) chance with the same firm to break the deadlock.
With their superior firepower, the Buddies should be backed at William Hill’s 6/5 (2.20) quote to see off the challenge of Dundee while St Mirren’s Steven Thompson is the value pick at 5/1 (6.0) to break the deadlock here.
