thumbnail Hello,

The Bayern official has voiced his dismay with the 46-year-old's comments, and believes they are the result of frustration about his absence from the game

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hit back at Olaf Thon in the wake of the former Germany international's criticism of Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Thon stated earlier this week that he believes Schweinsteiger is past his best, but Rummenigge says he is not impressed with the 46-year-old's comments.

"Perhaps Thon is a bit frustrated that he no longer plays a role in football. That's why he's making comments like this on television," Rummenigge told TZ.

"He would probably have liked to play at the same level as Bastian. We are very pleased with Schweinsteiger's performances.

"A quick look at the international careers of Thon and Schweinsteiger says it all, and speaks in Basti's favour. End of the discussion."

Schweinsteiger has been a key player for Bayern this term, scoring five goals in 20 Bundesliga appearances.
