thumbnail Hello,

The Manchester City midfielder was substituted at half-time in the first leg of the Euro 2013 qualification play-off against Serbia and may not feature in Tuesday's rematch

England Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce has confirmed that midfielder Jack Rodwell is a doubt for the second leg of the Three Lions' 2013 European Under-21 Championship qualification play-off tie against Serbia due to a hamstring injury.

Pearce's team travel to Krusevac for the reverse fixture on Tuesday after they beat the Eastern European nation 1-0 at Carrow Road thanks to Craig Dawson's second-half penalty.

Rodwell played the first 45 minutes on Friday evening but was withdrawn at half-time and replaced by Jason Lowe.

"His hamstring tightened up, we'll see how it goes overnight before we make any judgment," Pearce told reporters.

"I didn't want to take any chance for club or country, we'll see if it settles down and if it's not right he won't travel."

After a bright start, England had largely been repelled by the Serbia defence until Dawson beat goalkeeper Branimir Aleksic from 12 yards, and Pearce felt his team should have extended their lead.

"We created enough opportunities to be more than one goal in front in this tie," he continued. "I'm pleased to have kept a clean sheet, that's for sure, but a little bit disappointed we've not been more clinical in front of goal.

"Tonight has demonstrated that we can create chances on the road and we might need to score away to go through, but Serbia have got to come out and play against us.

The former Manchester City manager insisted that England would go to Serbia and try to win the second leg despite their advantage, but acknowledged that the experience would test his young players.

"Offensively we did well in patches and let ourselves down in patches," he continued. "What you can't lose track of is that Raheem [Sterling] is 17-years-old. He's a real young player coming in to play at the highest level.

"We'll try and win the game [in Serbia]. We set up England teams, certainly at this level to win every game. I think we'll do the same again. We won't be gung-ho but we've got enough ability to win the game on Tuesday. It'll be a tough ask for us and they'll make it very unpleasant."
