Getafe - Barcelona Betting Preview: Why the smart money is on a low-scoring game

With Barca traditionally not at their best after international breaks, our Spain expert Phil Kitromilides believes their trip to Getafe will produce three goals or less
Barcelona make the trip to the suburbs of the Spanish capital knowing all to well the potential pitfalls posed by a visit to Getafe.

Last season the Blaugrana were beaten 1-0 at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, while in their last home match before the international break the Madrid-based side came from behind to beat neighbours Real Madrid 2-1.

Though they might be the smallest club in the division in terms of support the Azulones can certainly pack a punch in their own back yard, and Paddy Power price them at 11/1 (12.00) to record another victory over the Catalans. Barcelona meanwhile are offered at 1/4 (1.25) while the draw can be backed at 9/2 (5.50).

Traditionally Barca have struggled in matches that have followed the international break and with their Spanish contingent making a long and arduous trip to Georgia and their Argentine stars playing in Peru, there may well be some tired legs in the Catalan camp.

One victim of La Roja's journey to eastern Europe is Andres Iniesta, with the forward picking up an injury which is thought will keep him out of action for 10 to 15 days.

All this is not to say that Barcelona will not win the match, but the likelihood of a high-scoring encounter is diminished.

Under 2.5 goals is available at 13/8 (2.63) but to play it safe, under 3.5 goals at 4/7 (1.57) gives a much increased chance of profit.

This bet has paid out in four of the last five meetings between the two sides in Getafe, not to mention in Barca's opening away game of the season, and is a decent selection for a bet on its own or as part of an accumulator.

For some enhanced odds back a goal-less first-half at 11/4 (3.75). While it may feel wrong backing against Barca to score, the Catalans' sluggishness after internationals, the absence of Iniesta, and the recent history of this fixture all mean that this is well worth considering.
Under 0.5 goals in the first-half has been the correct selection in two of the last three matches played between the sides at the Coliseum.
