K. Rajagopal was a happy man despite Malaysia’s failure to convert their chances in front of goal
“I am happy with the draw, despite the many opportunities we had to win the game. This is a good start for us”.
“We played well against a very physical Philippines team who depended a lot on aerial chances to score” he said.
Rajagopal was also satisfied with the performance of his strikers Norshahrul and Safee Sali.
“Norshahrul is still not at his best but he showed tonight what he can bring to the team with his intelligent play. As for Safee, he just reported to the national side, but he performed well despite the circumstances.
“I want to look at the positives of this match instead of the negatives. We had some good combination and decoy play, and my players were technically very comfortable. I thought our midfielders also performed well, Gurusamy covered plenty of ground and the wingers did well to support our strikers”.
The national coach however says his side needs to be consistent from now on.
“I put out a team that had good balance with a mixture of experience and some new faces. However, we need to keep this momentum going in the coming matches”.
“Overall I think we did very well against a Phillipines team who look stronger with their foreign based players”.
