The Red Giants are going to want to bounce back from their 4-1 thrashing by JDT I over a week ago, but they look like they have a mountain to climb in their Tuesday AFC Cup match against Arema Cronous. The Mad Lions have dominated the Indonesian Super League through their foreign striker combination of Cristian Gonzales and Gustavo López, whereas Selangor have been rather inconsistent in the Malaysian domestic competition.
Berita Harian today reported that Selangor head coach; Mehmet Durakovic is likely to field a different first XI tomorrow night, after Selangor were criticised for playing too predictably in their past matches, and defending too statically. One thing is certain; former Indonesia U23 star Andik Vermansyah will most definitely get his first start of the season, after being limited to the role of bench warmer and sub in the past matches. Also likely to start Tuesday night's match is their Brazilian striker Paulo Rangel; who has provided almost all of the Red Giants' goals this season.
Arema meanwhile have been excellent in both their defending and scoring departments this season. From five ISL matches, they have scored 14 goals while conceding only one. They had won all five matches, whereas tomorrow's hosts have conceded and scored the same number of goals; seven also from five matches. Selangor had won three and lost two.
On paper Arema are the better team, but with Durakovic finally compelled to try something new, the match perhaps will be played more closely than expected, like all matches between Malaysian and Indonesian teams usually go.
