J-League PREVIEW: Round 24

J-League PREVIEW: Round 24

Cesare Polenghi

Vegalta Sendai go into the home game with Kawasaki Frontale hoping to capitalise on any slip-up by Sanfrecce Hiroshima at fourth placed Jubilo Iwata

J.League Division 1, Round 24 Fixtures:

Consadole Sapporo v. Shimizu S-Pulse – Sapporo Dome, 2pm

Consadole were hammered 7-2 by Gamba Osaka last weekend, meaning that their relegation is now surely just a matter of time. S-Pulse also received a set-back in Round 24, losing 2-0 to Urawa Reds.

Shimizu won 1-0 when the sides met in March, will they make it a double and another defeat for Consadole on Saturday?

J.League Division 1, Round 24 Fixtures:

Urawa Reds v. Omiya Ardija – Saitama Stadium, 6pm

Urawa beat Shimizu S-Pulse 2-0 in Round 23 and moved to within just two points of the top of the table as a result. Local rivals Ardija lost 3-1 to Vegalta Sendai last weekend – a result that moved them into the relegation zone.

Their efforts to climb back out will be made even more difficult by Reds tricky winger Tsukasa Umesaki (pictured) who has been in particularly creative form of late, scoring one and winning a penalty in last week’s win.

Omiya, however, did win 2-0 the last time around, so to see if they will be able to claim a second victory in the Saitama derby this season check your local TV schedules as this game will be being broadcast live worldwide!

J.League Division 1, Round 24 Fixtures:

FC Tokyo v. Yokohama F. Marinos – Ajinomoto Stadium, 6:30pm

Tokyo beat table-topping Sanfrecce Hiroshima 1-0 last Saturday, their first win in six league matches.

Meanwhile, Marinos lost 2-0 to Cerezo Osaka – a result which brought an end to their fantastic 15 game unbeaten run in the league.

Tokyo’s match-winner last weekend was Brazilian striker Lucas (pictured), and the experienced 33-year-old is still capable of causing opposition defences plenty of problems.

When the sides clashed in Yokohama in June Marinos came out on top, to see if they can get back to winning ways just up the road in Tokyo take a look at your local TV guide as this game is being shown live around the world!

J.League Division 1, Round 24 Fixtures:

Vegalta Sendai v. Kawasaki Frontale – Yurtec Stadium, 7pm

Vegalta edged a little closer to the top of the table when they beat Omiya Ardija 3-1 in Round 23, and are now just one point behind Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Kawasaki didn’t have the best of weekends, and their 1-0 home defeat to Nagoya Grampus left them in 12th place. Frontale did win 3-1 when the sides met earlier this year though, can they repeat that feat again?

J.League Division 1, Round 24 Fixtures:

Kashima Antlers v. Vissel Kobe – Kashima Soccer Stadium, 7pm

Antlers lost 1-0 to Albirex Niigata in Round 24, making it three defeats in their last four games and leaving them just five points from the relegation zone. Vissel are only three points better off and were unable to open the gap up when they drew 0-0 with Sagan Tosu last week.

The player to keep an eye out for in this match will be Takuya Nozawa (pictured), who moved from Kashima to Kobe at the start of this season and will be keen to punish his former teammates from one of his trademark set-pieces.

Antlers won 2-1 in Kobe in May, to see if they can catch up with them by taking another three points this time check your local TV schedules as this game is being broadcast live worldwide!

J.League Division 1, Round 24 Fixtures:

Albirex Niigata v. Cerezo Osaka – Tohoku Denryoku Big Swan Stadium

Albirex beat Kashima Antlers 1-0 last weekend but results elsewhere mean they remain two points from safety. Cerezo also won – beating Yokohama F. Marinos 2-0 – but are the side that Albirex can catch with a win, and this week fired coach Sergio Soares and recalled his predecessor Levir Culpi. Albirex won 1-0 in April, can the returning coach save Cerezo from the same fate again in Niigata?

J.League Division 1, Round 24 Fixtures:

Jubilo Iwata v. Sanfrecce Hiroshima – Yamaha Stadium, 7pm

Jubilo beat Kashiwa Reysol 3-0 in Round 24, moving them up into 4th place and an Asian Champions League position. Sanfrecce remain at the top of the table, but their 1-0 defeat at home to FC Tokyo last Saturday means their lead has been cut to just one point. It finished 2-0 to Sanfrecce in Hiroshima in July, will they be able to hang on at the top with another win this weekend?

J.League Division 1, Round 24 Fixtures:

Nagoya Grampus v. Kashiwa Reysol – Mizuho Stadium, 7pm

Grampus avoided falling to a third straight league defeat last week when they beat Kawasaki Frontale 1-0. Reysol, on the other hand, gave up some ground on the leading pack when they lost 3-0 at home to Jubilo Iwata. It ended 2-1 to Grampus when the sides last met in July, will the 2010 champions get the better of the 2011 title-holders again here?

J.League Division 1, Round 24 Fixtures:

Sagan Tosu v. Gamba Osaka – Best Amenity Stadium, 7pm

Sagan drew 0-0 with Vissel Kobe in Round 24, meaning they are now just two points outside of the Asian Champions League spots. Gamba aren’t faring quite as well, although their 7-2 hammering of Consadole Sapporo last weekend did move them out of the relegation zone. Tosu dramatically came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 in the reverse fixture, who will come out on top on Saturday?
