Reading lost goalkeeper Alex McCarthy (shoulder) to injury at the weekend, so Adam Federici is set to take his place. Chris Gunter and Premier League debutant Sean Morrison were preferred last week at right-back and centre-back respectively over Shaun Cummings and Adrian Mariappa and could continue here.

Mikele Leigertwood and Jay Tabb are likely to continue in central midfield due to injuries to Danny Guthrie (thigh) and Jem Karacan (knee), and Garath McCleary could also retain his place on the right wing over Jimmy Kebe opposite Jobi McAnuff on the left.

Noel Hunt and Jason Roberts were chosen as the front pair against QPR, but summer signing Pavel Pogrebnyak is in contention for a starting place at home.

Norwich are set to field an unchanged defence with right-back Russell Martin (back) still unavailable, and Michael Turner and Javier Garrido having recovered from knocks suffered last weekend.

Chris Hughton opted last week for Robert Snodgrass ahead of Elliott Bennett on the right of midfield, opposite Anthony Pilkington on the left.

  DID YOU KNOW?
  • Reading are without a win in nine Premier League games this season, and have not won any of their last seven top-flight home games.
  • Norwich have only won one of their last 11 away league games, losing seven, and have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 38 away games in the Premier League - the longest ever such run on the road in the competition.
  • On each of the last three occasions the Canaries have kept a clean sheet on the road in the Premier League, they have drawn the game 0-0. The Norfolk side have not won away from home in the top-flight and kept a clean sheet since a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace in December 1994.
  • The Royals have won two and lost none of the last three home games against the Canaries, scoring at least two goals in each match.
  • Norwich’s three-goal top scorer Grant Holt (pictured right) scored in both games against Reading in the 2010-11 Championship season, but was sent off in the match at the Madejski Stadium.
  • Brian McDermott’s side have scored the opening goal in five of their last six matches in all competitions, but went on to draw four and lose the other of these five games.
  • The Royals have the lowest passing accuracy in the top-flight this season, with just 68% of their passes finding a team-mate so far.
  • Chris Hughton’s side have the worst shot conversion rate in the Premier League this term (8%), but have scored a higher percentage of headed goals than any other team in the top-flight (38%).
