The injury-hit LionsXII look to retain top spot as they travel to face a resurgent PKNS teamAfter beating Perak 2-1 in their last outing, the LionsXII look to retain top spot by beating PKNS this weekend. Not many will have predicted that the Lions will be serious contenders for the Malaysian Super League title, but with a win against PKNS they will increase pressure on second-placed Kelantan.
PKNS host the LionsXII at the Petaling Jaya Stadium, with both two teams hoping to gain maximum points. Both sides come into this game with contrasting fortunes, LionsXII with three wins in their last four matches, while PKNS have won only one only of their last four matches.
For LionsXII, the man to look out for will again be captain marvel, Shahril Ishak. With 10 goals to boot, he is leading the chase to win the Golden Boot this season but the PKNS defence should also be wary players such as Khairul Nizam. Coach V. Sundramoorthy will definitely be looking to gain maximum points and stretch their lead at the top of the MSL standings.
PKNS will be relying on forward Rudie Ramlie, even though his goal tally this season has not been impressive. Coach Abdul Rahman will want at least a draw for the team to catch up with Sabah and Sarawak. Defender Helmi Remeli will need to summon all the experience he gained during his stint with the National team to help the defence to contain the LionsXII players.
This match may look easy for the Lions, but they must be reminded that PKNS won their previous match with an impressive 4-1 victory against 5th placed T-Team. Michael Nicoise will be vital for PKNS if they want to grab anything out of this match after scoring twice against T-Team.
Both teams will meet again in less than a week, when PKNS will travel to the Jalan Besar Stadium on the 17th of April.
