Akhmal Rizal Rakhli emerged as the hero of the day after coming off the bench to score two goals and seal victory
The Seladangs named an unfancied line-up with talismanic forward Akhmal Rizal being dropped to the bench to accomodate Failee Ghazali. However, it was Negeri that flew into their strides early on and they took a shocking early lead in the 4th minute courtesy of a fantastic freekick by Jean-Emmanuel Effa Owona.
Perak's bid to restore parity was dealt with a blow in the 33rd minute as Failee Ghazali picked up a nasty injury, and he made way for Akhmal Rizal. The substitution proved to be a blessing in disguise as the former RC Strasbourg forward scored Perak's much deserved equalizer in the 39th minute, with an exquisite volley that left Farizal Marlias helpless.
The score remained tied until half time, but Perak came out for the second-half, firing on all cylinders. They finally took the lead in the 50th minute as Popovic and Akhmal Rizal combined well, before the latter slotted home from close range to send the Perak fans into frenzy.
Negeri them attempted to push forward on several occassions, but Effa Owona was largely unable to extert his influence upfront, with K. Nanthakumar closely marking him. Perak had a few more chances to increase their lead but the score seemed destined to remain as the home side claimed their second victory of the season.
