Selangor and T-Team couldn't have been more apart in terms of their recent fortunes. Selangor went into the match third in the league with a match in hand, whereas T-Team were third from bottom.
However the home team were bolstered by the inclusion of their latest signing, Brazilian forward Evaldo Gonçalves, while Selangor fielded the same players that they had the day before the April transfer window opened, despite rumours that they are seeking to replace a few foreign players in their employ.
The first significant chance of the match came in the 12th minute when following an exchange of passes, Paulo Rangel fed the ball to Indonesian winger Andik Vermansyah, but Andik's attempt from an angle was blocked by Titans goalkeeper Shahril Sa'ari.
However Selangor found their goal minutes later, the 15th minute to be exact. A Selangor corner was not headed away cleanly by a Titans' defender, and was headed in by the Red Giants' forward Thamil Arasu.
Nine minutes later Andik hit a volley from a Hadi Yahya cross from the right, but it went straight to the keeper.
In the the 25th minute, T-Team were denied an equaliser when another Indonesian player in the match, Patrich Wanggai fed Azrul Hazran in the Selangor box. Azrul's shot was blocked by Selangor keeper Farizal Marlias, and the ball rolled away infuriatingly and lazily towards the wrong side of the post.
Five minutes from the halftime whistle, Rizal Fahmi almost find his team's second and his first of the season off a corner. He squeezed away from his marker to stick a foot out for an attempt, got a touch, but Shahril kept it out with a gravity-defying leap.
Just before the halftime whistle was blown, Rangel got on the end of a long freekick, but his header did not get enough of the ball, and it went agonisingly wide.
Right off the second half whistle, Thamil almost added his and Selangor's second when he was fed by Rangel. He tried to lift the ball over the onrushing Shahril from an angle, but his attempt went wide.
Three minutes later Wanggai sent in a very good freekick. His ball curled towards the top far corner, but did not go in.
However 10 minutes from time, Wanggai finally found the equaliser for the home side. A freekick from the right of the penalty box found Wanggai's head, and the header flew in near the far post to make it 1-1.
But hero turned villain one minute before time, when Wanggai retaliated badly to a physical challenge by Thamil and S Veenod by punching not just one, but both of them in the back.
The sacking did not do much to affect the game, and moments later the whistle was blown by the referee. Selangor dropped two precious away points, and the chance to go top.
