Steve Darby's depleted Kelantan side suffered a massive defeat at the hands of Vissai Ninh Binh earlier today; leaving their AFC Cup hopes hanging in the balance

Kelantan conceded four goals as they succumbed to a frustrating defeat against Vietnamese side Vissai Ninh Binh earlier today. Steve Darby's injury-plagued side struggled to cope with the tempo displayed by the home side, and they ultimately faltered a disappointing defeat.

With only 15 players travelling to Vietnam, due to injuries and suspension, it was always going to be an uphill task. And the Vissai Ninh Binh wasted no time by taking the lead early on, courtesy of Voinea Petrisor's strike.

However, The Red Warriors stood strong and limited the Vietnamese side to only a few other chances as far as the first half was concerned. In the absence of Piya and Amar Rohidan, Kelantan looked significantly short of creativity as they struggled to create chances on the offensive.

But with fatigue slowly taking its toll, Vissai Ninh Binh became ruthless after the break. Phan Anh Tuan doubled their lead on the 53rd minute mark before Le Van Thang tripled it on the 76th minute.

Just when it looked frustrating enough for the visitors, Bryan Elroy had to make it four on the 80th minute, to complete a convincing rout for Vissai NB.

The victory also meant that Vissai NB have successfuly booked their spot in the knockout rounds of the competition. And with South China defeating Yangoon United earlier today, there is still a slim chance for the Red Warriors to make it as well.

Kelantan are on three points together with South China, while Yangon are on six points. And with two games remaining, Steve Darby's men be required to secure maximum points and hope that other results go their way, in order to make it past the group stages.
