But the blow for Malaysia came in the 39th minute. Sihavong scored via a deflected shot after Safiq gave the ball away in front of the Malaysian defence rather carelessly. It came out of nowhere as both sides went into half time with a 1-1 score line.
After the break, Malaysia continued to dominate proceedings by launching countless of attacks on the Laos defence. Safiq Rahim capitalized on a bad clearance and fired a shot towards the Laos goal, only to see it fly wide off the post. In the 62nd minute, Safee Sali missed a clear header, after Mahali Jasuli whipped in a delicious cross for the former Selangor man.
But the finally regained their lead in the 68th minute as Safee Sali showed composure to finish home, after being assisted by Wan Zack Wan Haikal. 10 minutes later, Wan Zack sent the Malaysian fans into frenzy with a well timed header, after Kunanlan did brilliantly to curl in a brilliant cross from the left flank.
K. Rajagopal then brought on Khyril Muhymeen for Safee Sali and the move paid immediate dividends as he went on to score just a minute after the coming on, as they sealed a comfortable victory over a dejected Laos side. The Malayan Tigers will now take on Indonesia in their final Group B clash on Saturday.
