If you are in the Kota Bharu area today, you can almost feel the slow build-up of the atmosphere to one of the most anticipated MSL derbies of the 2012 season; Kelantan vs Terengganu.

The banners have already been hoisted, and Kelantan fans have seemingly prepped themselves up for the match by donning their replica kits, even today. All proudly displayed with the same idea in mind; 'Welcome to Hell Terengganu'. Not a friendly town for those driving vehicles with Malaysian plates beginning with the letter ‘T’.

Both teams will be determined to recover from their disappointing results earlier this week, while playing against unfancied teams. Kelantan who drew 0 – 0 playing away to Sabah will be under pressure to notch a win in front of their rambunctious home fans, while Terengganu will want to regain their fans’ confidence after gifting Selangor PKNS a draw at home on Tuesday.

In addition to this, both teams, placed second and third respectively in the league standings, can’t afford to drop anymore points if they want to catch up with the surprise league leader Perak, whose ascent to the top on Tuesday was aided by Terengganu and Kelantan’s slip.

Francis Franky Doe will be the man to watch for Terengganu, he has been scoring important goals in the past few matches while his teammates are seemingly undergoing a barren spell, whereas Nurshahrul Idlan is going to have to step up, recover his previous form from before the match against Sabah and lead the attack for Peter Butler’s charges against his home state.

With both bragging rights and the top spot at stake in Saturday’s East Coast derby, this match will surely be anticipated by not only the two team’s fans but also by neutral fans and football pundits all across the region.
