Kelantan 1-0 Selangor: The Red Giants beaten by the Red Warriors

Kelantan 1-0 Selangor: The Red Giants beaten by the Red Warriors

Football Association of Singapore

The Red Warriors won the battle of the giants of Malaysian football.

The match started off with a high tempo and lived up to its billing as the clash of two giants of Malaysian football. The Red Warriors who are on a 21 match unbeaten streak, showed their intentions early on as Norsyahrul Idlan Talaha cleverly threaded a through pass to former national midfielder, Indra Putra Mahyuddin. However, his drilled shot was easily blocked by the panicky Selangor defence who breathed a sigh of relief as a desperate clearance was made.

Minutes later, Norsyahrul yet again was a threat to the Selangor defence as his mazy runs were not effectively dealt with. The resulting corner kick was beautifully taken by Indra Putra and unmarked Lebanese hitman Mohammed Ghaddar rose highest and headed into the net past the on looking Norazlan Razali. The crowd roared with delight as Ghaddar jubilantly celebrated his goal.

Soon after that, a neat one-two between two Kelantan players created a chance for Ghaddar whose dinked shot was saved by Norazlan Razali. Towards the end of the first half, national team skipper, Safiq Rahim’s free kick caused the first real trouble to Khairul Fahmi’s goal as the ball swerved away.

The first half ended with the Red Warriors controlling the game while the Red Giants were left chasing shadows.

Tempers flare in the second half as former Aston Villa striker, Bosko Balaban lashed out with an elbow to the face of Daudsu Jamauddin. He was yellow carded for his unprofessional behavior. The game was continuously marred by needless fouls as players from both teams started to lose their composure.

Soon after that, Indra Putra conjured up a strong volley out of nowhere that beaten Norazlan but not the bar of his goal.

The game spring to life towards the end as Amri Yahyah managed to squeeze a shot that was parried away by Khairul Fahmi. The game ended with Kelantan having much possession of the ball. The Red Giants coach, Irfan Bakti can be rightfully disappointed with his boys’ showing tonight as Selangor failed to stamp their authority over the match. Bojan Hodak on the other hand will be delighted with this result as the slip against Terengganu a few days back can now be forgotten.
