MSL Round Report: Kelantan win on home turf, Francis Forkey shines against LionsXII

Kelantan continued their stay at the top of the Super League table with a 3-0 victory over Kuala Lumpur while Francis Forkey Doe netted the winner against LionsXII

Sabah and PKNS contested a hugely entertaining affair at the Petaling Jaya Stadium, with Michael Nicoise and Michael Baird emerging as the toast for PKNS and Sabah respectively. The home side were 2-0 up by the 60th minute, courtesy of excellent strikes by Nicoise, but Sabah fought back and goals from Michael Baird and Shahrudin Yakop were enough to secure a valueable point away from home.

Francis Forkey Doe continued his goal scoring form after netting the winner in Terengganu's 1-0 victory over LionsXII. The Turtles initially had difficulties in adapting to the synthetic pitch, but their influence grew in stature. The home side had a few key chances themselves but were unable to convert any of those. Terengganu then had to thank Hariss Harun as his fumbled clearance was exploited by Doe who duly obliged by scoring the winning goal in the 75th minute.

After 442 minutes, Kedah scored their first goal of the season but it wasn’t enough as they were humbled 3-1 at home by Johor FC. Playing in Alor Setar, goals from Azi Shahril Azmi, Riduan Ma’on and Khaironnisam Sahabuddin were enough for Johor FC to secure their second win of the season. Khyril Muhymeen was predictably the one to break Kedah's duck, although their poor run of form was destined to continue.

Meanwhile, Perak secured their fourth win of the season after beating Felda United 2-1 at home. The Settlers were made to slog against the away side, with Michal Kubala continuing to impress in midfield. The Slovakian maestro opened the the scoring for Perak before Farderin Kadir equalized for E. Elavarasan's men. Nonetheless, Lazar Popovic had other ideas, as his deflected shot flew into the net to secure victory.

Kelantan were majestic in front of their home supporters as they thrashed a poor Kuala Lumpur side 3-0. Goals from Norhshahrul Idlan Talaha, Badri Radzi and Denny Antwi cheered the home fans but the team could have added more with Mohammad Ghaddar guilty of missing several clear-cut chances. Denny Antwi in particular continued to impress as Kelantan extended their unbeaten start to the season to five matches.

Kalle Sonne came back with a bang as he scored for Sarawak but his team could only manage a draw against Negeri Sembilan at home. Ahmad Shakir Ali gave the visitors the lead but Sonne scored the equalizer when he buried his penalty past Farizal Marlias. Shukor Adan then restored Negeri’s lead but Zamri Morshidi was the hero for Sarawak as he scored a late equalizing goal to restore parity for the Crocs. The score remained until the end of the match with both sides deservingly earning a point each.

Selangor ended their jinx against T-Team after beating them 2-1 at the Sultan Nasiruddin Shah Stadium. The Red Giants have been unable to beat T-Team for the past two years but goals from Ramez Dayoub and Azidan Sarudin settled a closely contested affair. T-Team's Zairo Anuar Zalani initially scored their equalizing goal, but it proved to be a mere consolation as Irfan Bakti's men banished their poor form with a solid victory.
