Made a crucial save to deny Eriksen early on in the game. Then escaped when Subotic blocked Babel's shot after he stole the ball off Boerrigter's feet. Another excellent save early in the second half from De Jong's shot from close range.
Did not have an easy evening either, but was the better of the two centre-backs. Beaten by Babel a few times, but always worked hard to fight himself back.
Did a good job to keep Boerrigter quiet, although he did lose sight of his direct opponent once or twice. Always happy to charge forward and link up with Kuba down the right. Got the assist for the winner.
Caused Sana all kinds of trouble with his marauding runs forward, and almost capped a fine outing with a first-half goal, only to see his shot saved by Vermeer. Good display from the Germany international.
Really struggled against Babel as the Dutchman's movement made life difficult for Hummels. His penalty lacked accuracy and power, and was consequently saved by Vermeer.
The experienced midfielder fought out some interesting battles with De Jong and Eriksen in midfield. Lead by example and provided his back-four with excellent cover.
Fairly anonymous in midfield and almost cost his side with some sloppy play early on, but was bailed out by Weidenfeller. Passing lacked accuracy, and was outmuscled more than once.
Threatened early on with some silky dribbles and sent in a number of dangerous crosses. Faded after the break as he was taken off for Perisic.
Almost escaped the attention of the Ajax defence early in the game with an intelligent run. Set up Reus in the second half with a brilliant through pass, before winning a spot kick as he went to the ground following Van Rhijn's challenge.
Always looked lively on the left wing, but didn't see as much of the ball as he would have liked in the first half. Came to life after the interval. Should have done better when he found himself one-on-one with Vermeer in the second half, though.
Had a difficult evening against Alderweireld and Moisander. Got a good chance to open the scoring early in the second half, but blasted his shot over the bar. Made up for his relatively anonymous performance with his winner in the dying minutes of the game.
Showed his class with a fine save to deny Schmelzer on the only occasion he was really tested in the first half. Superb reflect to push Reus' second-half shot wide. Capped an excellent display with a penalty-save to frustrate Hummels. Couldn't do anything about Lewandowski's goal and was unlucky to end up on the losing side.
Crucial in Ajax's build-up play and looked very comfortable on the ball. Strong in the duels as well, but beaten too easily by Lewandowski once early in the second half, while the Polish striker also got the better of him for the winner.
R. van Rhijn
Wasn't troubled too much by Reus in the first half, but often had to cope with Schmelzer, too. Experienced more difficulties after the interval. Harshly conceded a spot kick in the second half after allegedly fouling Gotze.
Made a superb last-ditch tackle early in the game to win the ball off Gotze. Did a more than decent job to keep Lewandowski quiet for large spells of the game. Should perhaps have done better for the 1-0 as Lewandowski beat him to a high cross.
S. de Jong
Always worked hard in midfield as he caused Gundogan and Kehl a fair bit of trouble with his intelligent movement. Had a powerful shot saved by Weidenfeller in the second half.
Should have opened the scoring after being set up by Babel early on, but squandered the chance. Showed glimpses of his immense potential, but also lost possession too often.
Only joined Ajax a few weeks ago, but already a key player for the Eredivisie champions. Showed some neat passing and made a few important interceptions.
A bit too predictable as he was continually looking to beat Piszczek for pace. Should have done better with his first-half chance.
Did not have an easy game against the tireless Kuba. Beaten a number of times in the first half, but without consequences. Willing to help Boerrigter in attack whenever possible. Improved after the break.
The former Liverpool winger put in a strong performance up front as he always made himself available, and hardly lost possession. Unlucky not to add his name to the score-sheet as he came close a few times.
The young Swede was unable to live up to the high expectations following his good performances in the past few weeks. Hardly got involved in attack, and was forced to track back much more than he will have hoped for.
